Our Chairwoman Lea John travelled to Ghana for the first time in 2021 to volunteer in a carpentry workshop. Since then, she has been fascinated by the plight of the people there and decided to help. Together with the Berlin support organisation Bildung schafft Gerechtigkeit e.V. we support the D.K. Akowuah Memorial Foundation in Boabeng/Ghana.

The aim is to give children in rural regions access to a good education. To this end, the D.K. Akowuah Memorial Foundation has established a school - the Heritage Academy. Instead of paying school fees, parents have the opportunity to work on one of the school farms once a week. This means that children from low-income families can also attend school. Children who live in very remote regions without access to education can attend boarding school in the Graceland Community live.

The people of Boabeng are working together to improve the future of their children.

Our association name also stands for this: "YANA" is the abbreviation for You Are Not Alone. It is a reminder that we do not have to achieve our goals alone and that we can achieve more together. The symbol in our logo is the Sankofa symbol of the Akan, the largest population group in Ghana. It symbolises developing new perspectives for the future from the experiences of the past.
In spring 2025, our 1st Chairwoman Lea John travelled to Ghana again to work on current projects on site. The top priority is the completion of the first building of the Graceland Community. The main cost factor is the connection to the power grid. We would be delighted if you could help us support!
